When you choose to have sex before marriage, you can expose yourself
to sexually transmitted diseases. STD’s are passed from one person
to another primarily through sexual contact. According to the Medical
Institute for Sexual Health, an estimated
15 million new sexually transmitted infections occur every year!
Did you know?
You can get some STD’s by having oral sex
1 in 4 sexually active teens will graduate with an STD
There are over 4 million new cases of chlamydia
every year and if left untreated, it can cause miscarriages or infertility
Herpes can produce blisters around your mouth that
people can actually see
HPV is the most prevalent STD and it has been linked
to cervical cancer
HIV/AIDS produces over 20,000 new cases annually
and it leads to death
Also, many people who have an STD don’t even know it, and some
of those who do know it, don’t tell! Remember, the more partners
you have, the higher your risk is of contracting an STD. When
you have sex with someone, you’ve had sex with everyone they’ve
had sex with and so on!
PREGNANCY
Having sex before marriage can sometimes lead to an untimely pregnancy.
Approximately 1 million teens become pregnant in this country every year.
To put it another way, there is a teen pregnancy almost every 31 seconds.
Check this out:
The United States has the highest rate of teen pregnancy in the industrialized
world
7 out of 10 unwed mothers drop out of high school
Almost 80% of the fathers of babies born to teen mothers do not marry
the mother
Some teens want to have a baby. Many girls feel that if they have a child,
their boyfriends will stick around and maybe marry them at some point.
However, as the evidence reveals above, that is not the case! Others feel
that having a baby will give them something to love and love them in return.
This is true, but many girls don’t realize the amount of work and
responsibility that goes into raising a child. Children are important,
but it’s better for you and for them when they can be raised in
a stable environment.
BROKEN HEART
Just because your body may feel ready for sex, doesn’t mean your
heart and mind are ready too! Though condoms may help prevent pregnancy
and sexually transmitted diseases sometimes, they will never
protect your heart. Sex is a powerful, intimate act, and when it takes
place outside a loving, faithful relationship like marriage, it can sometimes
cause a person to feel used and hurt.
